Rob is a native of Newport News, Virginia. He earned a Bachelors Degree in Finance and Masters of Business Administration from Virginia Tech. He is also a graduate of the university’s Leadership and Management Academy. Before joining Virginia Tech in 2002, he worked for the federal government for the General Services Administration in Washington, D.C.
His roles and responsibilities with the university have progressively developed over his 22-year tenure in the Office of Budget and Financial Planning and then Capital Budgeting and Financing; leading to his recent promotion to Assistant Vice President for Capital Budgeting and Financing reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Chief Financial Officer.
His current role includes leadership and oversight for a wide variety of activities including: developing the university's Capital Outlay Plan; working with state policy makers for obtaining resources on behalf of the university's capital goals and objectives; developing creative financing solutions to advance the capital outlay program; debt capacity planning and allocation; continuous process improvement of finance and administrative processes; and business analysis and planning for university operations and initiatives.
