John Cusimano has been employed at Virginia Tech since 1988. Mr. Cusimano oversees the Office of Investments and Debt Management which manages over $2.4 billion of financial assets and $850 million of outstanding debt for the university and its related Virginia Tech Foundation.
Investment responsibilities include oversight of the Foundation’s endowment and deferred gift programs, the university’s Optional Retirement Program as co-chair of the Defined Contribution Advisory Committee, and the management, accounting and reporting of various university and Foundation operating and short-term investment funds. Debt responsibilities include obtaining external financing for university and Foundation capital projects through various state programs, individual underwritten debt issuances and bank loans; providing secondary market disclosure information; managing and monitoring of IRS private use guidelines; and the overall financing structure and strategies of the university and Foundation debt programs.
Mr. Cusimano earned both his bachelor’s degree in Finance and his M.B.A. from Virginia Tech. John serves as the administrative advisor to student investment groups of SEED, BASIS, COINs, and Credit Corps that manage over $13 million of endowment funds for the Virginia Tech Foundation. John also represents the university within the state and local business community by serving as a member of the State Non-Arbitrage Program Advisory Board and as Vice President and Chairman of the Investment Committee for the MBC Development Corporation.
